The drill scan traces the real asteroid.
- Scan on the model: The grid over a rock you’re drilling is now its own 3D model, exactly as it tumbles, instead of a sphere. You see its outline and contour lines that sit on the rock and turn with it. A bright scan line sweeps across, following the surface. The scan is cyan.
- Ore in the rock: Ore veins show up as glowing patches in the material’s colour on the rock’s faces, one per unit of ore (at most eight). Hidden ones come into view as the rock turns. As you mine, they go dark one after another; the one being drilled flickers.
- Technical note: Phaser re-sorts a mesh’s faces by depth every frame, so the mapping now goes through the vertices instead of the face index.
- Rocks without a 3D model (sprite fallback) keep the sphere grid.
