Raycion for phones. Tested with a remote-controlled Chrome in phone mode (real touch events, triple pixel density) at 390×844 portrait, 844×390 landscape and 360×740 (small Android) — 23 screens each photographed and measured before and after. Here’s what was found and fixed:
Controls
- Touch stick: wherever your left thumb lands on the left half of the screen, a stick appears. How far you push it sets direction and speed (analog, running over the same input as a controller); if your thumb drags well past it, the stick follows.
- Thumb buttons: jump, nova, reprise and focus as round buttons at the bottom right, pause tucked next to the mute button. POL only in Track mode, SKILL only with a free point.
- Hold focus: right thumb anywhere on open space.
- The pause menu can switch to “finger follows” (the previous control scheme). On phones the stick is the default; on tablets, “finger follows” stays the default.
Overlapping elements
- The touch buttons used to show through every menu (difficulty, loadout, skill tree, star map) — now only in flight, on all touch devices.
- In flight, six text buttons used to sit over the playing field and the pause button over the weapon display; in Orbit the right-hand stats column, mission panel and buttons all stacked on top of each other. The HUD is now compact on phones: portrait has stats and bars up top, level and buttons at the bottom; landscape has stats and bars on the left, game values and buttons on the right.
- In Orbit, the mission panel now shows only the current objective and its target on phones.
- The mute button used to sit over headings (Achievements, Station) — windows now leave room at the top.
- The end screen now closes every other window (in testing it used to sit over the boon choice).
Hangar: the 1600×900 stage used to just get shrunk down for phones — at 390 px wide, a quarter of its size, with 7 px tall buttons. The same elements now flow one below another instead: header, a swipeable category bar, a smaller ship, cards in a two-column grid (four across in landscape), with details below; tapping a card scrolls its details into view.
Menus: the Station shows its three zones stacked instead of in 100-px-narrow columns, and “Accept” is 38 px tall instead of 22. Boon cards are more compact (three nearly fit on one screen). Tabs, library buttons and the privacy checkbox are now thumb-sized. The star map says “tap” instead of “click.” New help entry TOUCH.
Fixed for everyone: the “Leaderboard” menu button had no icon and therefore no frame — it stood as bare text among the others.
Tablet and desktop stay as they were: compared pixel-for-pixel across 13 menu screens per device, with a 0.00–0.6 % difference (animated stars) — only the main menu differs, due to the fixed leaderboard button. The phone layout only kicks in below 600 px width or 500 px height.
